On Sunday, November 17 at Malvern Town Hall, and again on Sunday, November 24 at Castlemaine Town Hall, Stonnington Symphony is thrilled to be joined by Guest Conductor Carlos Del Cueto. Immerse yourself in a remarkable programme that promises to captivate and inspire!

Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, known for his richly melodic and evocative style, crafts a stunning narrative in Ballade, reflecting both the elegance of the later Romantic period and the poignant beauty of his own unique voice. Johannes Brahms’ Variations on a Theme by Haydn, Op.56 is filled with vibrant creativity and intricate variations, paying homage to the classical tradition while showcasing Brahms’ inventive genius.

The performance culminates with Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Symphony No.5 in D Major. Renowned for its serene and contemplative qualities, this symphony is a testament to Vaughan Williams’ mastery in creating lush, atmospheric soundscapes that continue to resonate deeply with audiences.

Guest Conductor Melbourne-based Mexican conductor Carlos del Cueto was formerly Junior Fellow in Conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester, as well as Head of Music Staff at English Touring Opera and a winner of the BBC Performing Arts Fund Music Fellowship scheme. Since moving to Melbourne in 2023, Carlos has worked with Victorian Opera as chorus master (Eucalyptus), and assisted Jaime Martin at the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, where he also regularly gives pre-performance talks. Carlos is Music Director of the Tudor Choristers, and in 2024 has conducted orchestras such as the Preston and Stonnington Symphony Orchestras, as well as the Northern Rivers Symphony Orchestra, among others.
