Sea, Myth & Memory

Dive into a world where the ocean breathes, legends awaken, and memory comes vividly to life as Carlos del Cueto returns to conduct Stonnington Symphony.

Sea, Myth & Memory brings together three extraordinary works that transport you across vast seascapes, ancient tales, and the depths of human imagination. Benjamin Britten’s Four Sea Interludes opens the program with shimmering, atmospheric portraits of the sea—by turns serene, stormy, and hauntingly beautiful.

From there, journey into Nordic mythology with Jean Sibelius’s Pohjola's Daughter, a gripping musical saga inspired by the Finnish epic Kalevala, where a heroic quest meets an enigmatic maiden of the North.

The concert culminates in Modest Mussorgsky’s monumental Pictures at an Exhibition as orchestrated by Ravel, a vivid musical gallery that transforms art into sound—each movement a memory, each note a brushstroke.

Evocative, powerful, and richly imaginative, Sea, Myth & Memory is a concert experience that will sweep you away on waves of sound and story.
