Alex Morris

Alex completed a Bachelor of Music (Composition) at the University of Western Australia in 2009. Upon graduating, Alex was appointed as Orchestra Manager at the West Australian Symphony Orchestra. After moving to Melbourne, Alex became Orchestra Manager at Orchestra Victoria and subsequently the Concert & Education Coordinator. Alex has also worked with organisations including the WA Youth Orchestra, National Institute of Youth Performing Arts.

Alex has extensive festival experience, working as a venue stage manager, performer, and producer as well as ticketing and box office management having worked with Perth FRINGE WORLD, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Melbourne International Film Festival, Melbourne Fringe and more recently RISING where he was also Music Director of the flagship Night Chorus at The Wilds.

Alex is currently Music Director of the Melbourne Gay and Lesbian Chorus’ shOUT Youth Chorus and the new cult-sensation The Shanties. He is the former Music Director of Geelong Harmony Chorus, and Shania Choir – of which he was also co-producer and the award-winning Vocal Evolution in Perth. He has previously held the the positions of Chairman of the Australasian Guild of Barbershop Judges and BHA Vice President Contest & Judging as well as being a member of the national education faculty for both Barbershop Harmony Australia and Sweet Adelines Region 34. In 2022 Alex was inducted into the Barbershop Harmony Australia Hall of Fame.

Alex is in demand around the world as a choral conductor, vocal coach and music educator working with ensembles, teaching classes and running workshops. He is regularly commissioned to write new works and arrangements for ensembles both in Australia and around the world.
