40th Anniversary Artistic Development Fund Commission

Stonnington Symphony is calling for Expressions of Interest to compose a new work for the orchestra to celebrate our 40th anniversary of community music-making!


Composers are invited to submit an expression of interest to compose a new 8-12 minute work for Stonnington Symphony to be conducted by Artistic Director, Roy Theaker at a premiere our 40th Anniversary Gala on Saturday 18 November 2023.

 

Maximum instrumentation: 3*3*3*3* - 4331 - tmp+2 (optional harp) - str

 

Applicants are asked to submit the following:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • A brief explanation of how this commission would further develop your career as a composer / arranger
  • Two (2) original scores for orchestra (recordings desirable)
  • A written reference

 

 NB: Expressions of Interest will only be accepted from residents from the state of Victoria

As part of our ongoing commitment to the development of local artists, Stonnington Symphony’s Emerging Artist program supported by our Artistic Development Fund has provided the means for the orchestra to undertake a range of projects designed to extend and enhance the artistic life of our community. We pride ourselves on our performance and mentoring opportunities for young and developing artists.

The successful applicant will receive a commission of $2500 supported by the Stonnington Symphony Artistic Development Fund.

  

KEY DATES

Expressions of Interest close on Sunday 15 January

Applicants notified of result by Friday 4 February

First payment deposited on return of signed of agreement and invoice

First draft of score due by Monday 21 August

Final score and parts due by Monday 18 September

Final payment deposited on receipt of score and parts*

 

*The successful applicant will be responsible for producing typeset score and parts.
