A Bright New World
Sunday 23 May | 2:30 | Malvern Town Hall
In 2014 Stonnington Symphony launched our inaugural emerging artist program with funds from the Artistic Development Fund. We are very excited to welcome back Ingrid Martin to the podium to conduct a program of music from both sides of the Atlantic.
Dulcie Holland is not only a celebrated Australian composer but well known work in music education and work with the Australian Music Examinations Board. Festival Flourish has received countless performances and recordings by orchestras around the country. Massenet's Le Cid was premiered in 1885 by the Paris Opera and by 1919 had received over 150 performances at their theatre. Stonnington Symphony bring to life five of the movements from the orchestral suite from Act II of this stunning work.
This stunning program closes with Dvořák's iconic Symphony No.9, Op.95 "From the New World" - arguably one of the most popular symphonies of all times. The haunting theme from the second movement played by cor anglais is the composers most celebrated melody.
